Deadpool is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool first appeared in The New Mutants #98 (Feb. 1991).

Deadpool is often considered to be one of the wittier Marvel characters and has gotten some what of a cult following of people who don't really read the comics but can still appreciate the witty humor that deadpool provides. The breaking of the forth wall is done somewhat tentatively by other writers but Fabian does a nice job of sprinkling it in at certain points.

His job description is that of a mercenary and his Marvel life started out with him being the bad guy in an issue of New Mutants and he later appeared in some issues of X-Force. There is now a Deadpool comic book being published as well as the character sharing the cover with other characters, most noticeably Cable. Deadpool is often referenced in the series as the "Merc with a Mouth."

It is not very known where exactly the love of deadpool arose in the internet, but it probably started somewhere in the depths of 4chan.org/b/ and has spread to 420chan.org on several boards including but not limited to /616/, /b/, and /weed/ on occasion.
